Some Like It Hot! A Dishwashing Temperature Guide

When it comes to washing dishes, it’s really easy if you’ve got a dishwasher. But it’s highly likely that you’ve never taken the time to think about how your dishwasher actually cleans all the dishes you stack in it. There are lots of little factors that go towards ensuring that you can avoid the hassle of washing up every day. And yet, there are some things that your dishwasher seemingly cannot do!

For instance, you’ll probably find that your dishwasher doesn’t give you the option to adjust the exact temperature of the wash. Ever wonder why this happens?

Far from it being something that the dishwasher manufacturers forgot to add as a feature, a dishwasher’s temperature is set to make sure it is the most efficient that it can be. A dishwasher runs its main cycle at about 65-70C/150-160F, which is hot enough to ensure that the detergent dissolves and is activated, and also that stuck on food and grease is dislodged and washed away. During the rinse phase, the water is heated to slightly higher temperatures of around 80C/180F that make sure the dishes are properly sanitised, and safe to eat from.

Not to Scale

Because of these high temperatures, the natural calcium and magnesium content of the water means that lime-scale will likely form on the inside of the dishwasher, just like the residue you see forming inside a kettle. Over time this can pose a problem, as it can hamper the efficiency of the dishwasher, so it’s important to use a dishwasher cleaner once a month to help keep it running at its best. Finish Dishwasher Cleaner removes not only this lime-scale deposit, but also any other grease and food-waste left in the depths of your dishwasher. So now you can be sure that your dishwasher looks clean and smells fresh. More importantly, a cleaner dishwasher means cleaner dishes and in turn, better hygiene for you and your family.

Can’t Stand the Heat

The biggest downside that there used to be with these high temperatures in the dishwasher was that cloudiness could start to appear over time. While the hot water agitated the molecules of the glass, the chemicals in the detergent could cause some of them to be dislodged. Although still appearing smooth to the naked eye, these small imperfections affect the way light passes through the glass, giving them a cloudy appearance that no amount of cleaning can remove.

Finish Shine and Protect was developed to combat this problem, using patented protective actions to shield the glass from this process by blocking and neutralizing the compounds that cause this irreversible process of clouding. This means that you don’t have to worry about putting your glasses, and even your crystal, in the dishwasher as they’ll not only get a great clean, but you can rest assured that their shine will be well protected.

Take care of your dishes with Finish Shine and Protect, and don’t worry about the dishwasher – the temperature is fixed for the most effective clean!

Love your dishwasher. Give it Finish.
